Records tumble at 2016 Napier Harriers / Shoe Clinic Apley Relay

The Napier Harrier men’s and women’s Shoe Clinic Relay teams comfortably won their grades in good running conditions on Saturday with the men’s team breaking the course record by 1min 28sec.

Hastings Steeplechase

Napier Harriers dominated proceedings at the Hastings Steeplechase at the HB Showgrounds on Saturday  where over 100 runners took part in the various grades from the three clubs competing.



In the combined cubs grade Kylah Gun from Palmerston North took line honours in 6min 23sec followed by Hastings runner Jonty Roil in 6min 36sec with club mate Harry Luxford filling 3rd place in 6min 40sec over the 1500m distance.


Promising Napier runner Aniela Apperley claimed victory in the combined boys and girls 12 and under 1500m race in 5min 50sec followed by Palmerston North runner Kimberley Walsh in 5min 54sec with Hastings runner Charlie Roil securing 3rd place in 5min 58sec.
Napier’s Nina Boesch came from behind to take out the girls 14 and under 3k race in 12min 26sec from club mate Alia Wentz in 13min 02sec followed by Hastings runner Ruby Brett 13min 25sec. In the same race Emily Dunn convincingly won the girls 16 and under grade in 12min 07sec from Palmerston North runner Francis Allen in 13min 09sec with Napier’s Carolyne Nel taking out 3rd place in 13min 40sec.
Napier’s World walking representative Laura Langley took to running on Saturday and showed a clean pair of heals in the women’s 19 and under grade over 3k in 12min 30sec holding out Palmerston’s Jharna Melbourne in 13min 45sec and Sinead Darmody from Hastings Harriers in 14min 55sec.
The Boys under 14 and 16 race was a good battle within the grades with Napier’s Ollie Marshall applying the pressure over the leading 16 and under runner Mark Day from St Johns during the last half lap in their 3k race to take out 1st place in the 14 and under grade in 10min 52sec from club mate Max Taylor in 11min 31sec and Palmerston’s Bradyn Popow in 12min 16sec. St Johns Mark Day took out the 16 and under race in 11min 04sec from Napier’s Alex Langley in 11min 44sec and Hastings runner Regan Singer in 11min 57sec.
Only two women contested the senior women’s race with Mellisa Black taking line honours in 18min 44sec. Combined with this race over 4.5km was the Women’s Masters grade which was convincingly won by Napier’s Karen Moore enjoying her first harrier victory in 20min 11sec followed by Masterton harrier Andrea Harris in 21min 36sec and Napier’s Nneka Okonta in 3rd place.
William Little and Zac Manning, both from Napier were 1st and 2nd in the Men’s 19 and under grade in 17min 17sec and 17min 27sec respectively over the 4.5k distance.
In the senior men/ masters men’s race over 6k Napier’s Kristian Day carried on his early season form by taking out the senior grade in 20min 54sec after a great tussle virtually all the way with Palmerston Norths David Lovelock in 21min 01sec followed by Napier’s Lucas Duross in 21min 17sec. Phil McKay from Hastings Harriers took out the Master’s grade in 24min 37sec from Napier’s Craig Mathers and Jake Jacobs running 25min 09sec and 25min 32sec respectively.
