Two Bridges Trail Relay – July 2013
This year's Two Bridges Trail Relay was held in perfect spring like conditions. We had 45 Harriers turn out to race in the relay which in turn meant that there were 9 teams of 5. The legs of the relay varied in length from 1.9km to 6.7km, with the race starting and finishing at the river end of Guppy Road. Some Harriers chose to run the entire 21.1km loop.
In the first leg runners covered 6.7km, team 2 took the early lead with Christian Leopard having the fastest lap time of 20m 57s, followed by Kristian Day in 21m 53s and Toa Elphick-Iaveta in 21m 55s
Joshua Keating ran the second 3.7km leg for team 2 and at the end of this leg they held onto their lead. The fastest time for leg 2 went to Dylan Barron in 15m 16s, followed by Oliver Marshall in 15m 54s and Joshua Keating in 16m 18s.
The third leg was a 5.5km run from the Puketapu bridge and at the end of this leg we had new race leaders, Lan Joansen ran the fastest time in this leg and his 18m 29s time brought his team up from 3rd to 1st. Second fastest time on this leg went to Jason Pearson in 22m 18s followed by David Kay in 23m 41s.
The fourth leg was a 3.3km run and Roisin Pearson and Kim Douglas had the joint fastest time of 14m 07s. They were followed by Todd Douglas in 14m 31s and Laura Smith in 14m 33s.
The fifth and final leg was a 1.9km run from Pettigrew Green Arena back to Guppy Road, the fastest time on this leg went to Tyler Annand in 6m 09s, followed by Stella Marshall in 6m 27s and Jonathon Moore in 6m 28s.
The winning team was Team 12 who held the lead from the end of lap 3, the team was Toa Elphick-Iaveta, Louise Hancock, Lan Joansen, Evan Ward and Sheryl Smith. Team 2 (Christian Leopard, Joshua Keating, Malcolm Lochrie, Todd Douglas and Stella Marshall) was second 14s behind the winning team.
At the end of the race 20 minutes separated the teams.
