Tutaekuri River Relay – April 2013

After our Indian Summer the first cold snap of winter arrived on Friday, with heavy rain showers on Saturday morning, luckily the rain kept away until the end of the run. Due to the long dry summer we were able to cross the river for the first time in a couple of years.

The relay consists of four team members where the first runner (14 years and under) runs a 2k lap with the next three all running the 4k lap and crossing the river just before the end of the lap.

Springfield Scramble

2nd Sealed Handicap – 4 May 2013

Another new Harriers course this weekend, the run took place just off Springfield Road. The 2km course started on the limestone stopbank before veering off onto the grass and gravel, there was even a tiny bit of mud for good measure. As this was a sealed handicap race all runners in each grade started together and handicaps were applied after the race. 79 runners turned out for the handicap race and 7 cubs contested the cubs race (this race was not handicapped).

The first open handicap of the season was held at a new venue at Kent Terrace in Taradale in wet conditions. Despite the wet weather there was a good turn-out of 84 runners and 7 cubs. The new course was a 2km loop with a rather challenging hill, a stile to cross and some mud thrown in for good measure thanks to the weather conditions.
