Everyone's favourite fun run and walk is back for 2020!
Once again we'll be based at the Westshore Beach Inn (85 Meeanee Quay), with the 'racing' taking place across the road beside the Ahuriri Estuary.
The Dates
'The Shoe Clinic Tuesday Tune-Up' for 2020 will be on Tuesday evenings from October 13 through to our final night with extra prizes on December 1.
The Cost
2km - $3
5km - $5 (Napier Harrier Club members $3)
Season pass $24 (8 races) (a great option if you're a regular!)
Family pass $10 (per night, up to 2 adults and 3 kids from the same family)
The Rules
- To be eligible for junior 2k prizes you must be under 15 on the day of the series prizegiving (last run of that series)
- The minimum requirement to be eligible for a 'fastest time' prize is to run that race 3 times
- You can only win one major prize per series
Registration and Race Times
Registration is on the grass area opposite the Westshore Beach Inn (85 Meeanee Quay) from 5:30 pm with both the 2 km and 5 km runs and walks starting at 6:00 pm.
The Short Course - 2 km
The start is on the grass area across the road from the Westshore Beach Inn and the finish is on the old Embankment Road.
PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL CROSSING THE ROAD!
We'll start on the grass beside the shingle pit and head east across the grass back toward Napier, joining on to the limestone pathway and following this to our turn around cone which is almost out to the bridge across the Ahuriri estuary. Round the cone and head back along the limestone. As you approach the grassed area again stay on the limestone as it curves around to the left and then follow it on a long right hand arc back towards the old Embankment Road. You'll turn a sharp left to get on to the road then a sharp right around a cone on the road, and finish just ahead on the Embankment Road.
The Long Course - 5 km
The Long Course follows the same first (almost) 2kms as the short course but when you get back to the Embankment Road you'll turn left onto the road and head out 1.5kms, over the bridge, stay on the road past the Ahuriri Trail Track, almost out to the railway line where you'll find a cone to round before heading all the way back to finish at the same place as the 2km.
At the Finish
When you cross the finish line there will be a time recorder and place recorder. It is vital to the accurate collection of results that you keep to your finishing order until the place recorder has your race number (which will be written on your hand at registration).
It is also important that you do not cross the line more than once!
If you go back on to the course to run/walk in with another competitor, do not cross the line a second time as this obviously creates a false recording in the results.
Prizes
Prizegiving takes place at the Westshore Beach Inn as soon as possible after each event.
The Shoe Clinic Napier are offering a $25 voucher at each event and, along with Brooks Shoes, will be contributing some major spot prizes at the final event, including a $250 Brooks shoe voucher – these will be offered as an ‘eligibility draw’ on the last night of the series. To be eligible for the $250 Shoe Voucher you need to have participated in 6 or more races (2km or 5km) either as a participant or as a registered volunteer. You do not need to be present on the last night to win this prize. There will also be some performance-based prizes presented at the end of the series for which you need to have contested at least 3 of that event.
There are two $30 Westshore Beach Inn and PAK Restaurant Food and Drink vouchers available at each round of the Shoe Clinic Tuesday Tune-Up and once again Reading Cinemas are sponsoring a kids pack for the kids to win at each round!
There will also be some other spot prizes on offer on the night. You must be present at prizegiving to be eligible for the spot prizes.
The Points Series
As an incentive to improve your times, points will be awarded for beating your previous best time in the series.
As your times get faster, improvement becomes more difficult so the points increase later in the series.
To encourage ongoing improvement, a bonus is awarded for beating your best time from the previous series. This 'bonus' is available only once.
As an additional award to the regular attendees, one point will be awarded for each event attended.
