The annual Queens Birthday Road Race was held in perfect conditions on Monday 3rd June. Due to road works on the Marine Parade it was a slightly adjusted 4.5km course. There was a separate 2km course for the 12/u age group and a 1km course for the cubs.
Green Shield Relay
Green Shield Relay – June 2013
This year's Green Shield Relay was held at Park Island on a bitterly cold winters day. We had 60 hardy Harriers turn out to race in the relay as well as some very brave cubs.
HBG XC Champs
Napier Harriers supplied 50% of the runners for the Provincial Cross Country Champs in Gisborne which doubled as our Club Champs as well.
We finished up by having to drive 4 vans to Gisborne as the bus had to be cancelled as the driver was crook. Thanks to Nicole and Mark for arranging the vans at such late notice and to Wayne, Lance, Roger and Neil for being the drivers. All in all a good trip with no hassles on the day.
North Island XC Champs
27 Napier Harriers took part in the NICC Champs in Taupo last Saturday with some good running by our members in great fine running conditions.
We do not know our club result as yet but overall we seemed to do OK. The numbers taking part in many of the races appeared to be down on last year.
Our 10 year olds got the day off to a good start with Stella Marshall getting off to a solid start and maintained her effort to finish well in 10th place in 4m 19s with Sophia Moore placing 28th in 5m 21s. The 10 year old boys found the competition a little tough but they competed well which resulted in Tyler Annand 19th, Jonathon Moore 23rd and Ryan Jones 28th all running 1k.
Two Bridges Relay
Two Bridges Trail Relay – July 2013
This year's Two Bridges Trail Relay was held in perfect spring like conditions. We had 45 Harriers turn out to race in the relay which in turn meant that there were 9 teams of 5. The legs of the relay varied in length from 1.9km to 6.7km, with the race starting and finishing at the river end of Guppy Road. Some Harriers chose to run the entire 21.1km loop.
